What If

Randall Kennedy is a Law Professor at Harvard, and has written an interesting article in the Washington Post regarding Black America's reaction if Barack Obama doesn't win the fall election.

If Obama doesn't win in the fall, we know that the world will not end as we know it. I do think that although race will be a dominant factor in the election, it will not be the only reason for a potential defeat. I still think that Obama is the front runner, however, there are cracks in the wall of the campaign that need to be sealed pronto.

IT IS GOING TO TAKE BLACK PEOPLE GETTING OFF THEIR LAZY AND SORRY BEHINDS AND GO VOTE. STOP MAKING EXCUSES AND DO THE RIGHT THING. THE BLACK MAN IS COUNTING ON US BUT WHEN YOU COUNT ON COLORED FOLKS SOMETIMES THEY WILL LEAVE YOU HANGING ON A DAMN TREE.

I think black people will vote. I don't think this is about Obama. To me, the question is whether White America can transcend its entrenched racism and vote for the most qualified. Obama is young, smart, measured in tone and in his thinking and less impetuous.

If whites allow their racist conditioning to cause them to vote against their own interest by voting for McCain, they will not deserve a Barack Obama.
